Inside

I stayed inside today. It's safe here, inside my fantasy world. No one gets hurt and the world spins at a pace that I can understand. Anything is possible and time is just one of many luxuries. But, I'm afraid the time is near when I will re-enter earth's atmosphere and deal with my nemesis- reality.

Reality loves to bring me down. It wants me to acknowledge that I'm in a state of severe loneliness, but I won't give in. It tells me to panic about not having a job or place to stay next month, but it can't phase me as long as I'm draped in the clouds of optimism.

The air that elevated me into the clouds is getting heavier and I'm slowly descending to the earth. It's challenging to look forward or up when you're moving in a downward spiral, but I'm trying to. I keep waiting for the breath of fresh air that will keep my soul soaring through the sky, but it hasn't arrived yet.

I hope it comes. I know it will. I hope it will.

Isabel

My good friend Isabel from my college years spent at the prestigious University of New Orleans arrived in town today. She is super talented. Seriously the girl is a natural on camera. We were a part of a creative team in New Orleans that produced the best tv show you never heard of called No Apparent Reason.

Her flight arrived around 1130pm and after a brief stop of at my apartment, we took the train into Manhattan. We walked around the east village a bunch, parleyed in a punk/80's bar and went to times square. By the end of the night miss energy was wiped out.sleep.jpg

I was impressed though that we stayed out as long as we did. Some of her predecessors definitely didn't last this long. I can't lie I was exhausted also. Many exploits coming tomorrow, now its sleepy time.....

Streets of NY

Today we walked the streets of New York like a deranged Robert Dinero in the film Taxi Driver. No our exploits did not lead in disaster, but I think I'm now in Olympic shape for the year 2008.

New York seemed to be giving Isabel a glimpse of how life can be out here. Witness the magic. She's a big Beastie Boys fan and wanted to check out Paul's Boutique. Without doing any research on the location, we found just stomping through the lower eastside streets. From there she explained that she wants to go to NY film school & as soon as she said it we turned the corner and there it was.

Yeah it may not seem like much, but to her it felt good to see these places in living colour. I think someone might have the NYC bug........

Imagine

We did so much today that its hard to remember everything, but I'll give it a shot. The first stop of the day was to Strawberry Fields to visit the John Lennon memorial site. Isabel is a huge Beatles fan and this was another must see local on her trip.

A few blocks away, we joined her cousin Molly and husband John for dessert at Cafe Lalo. If you've seen the film 'You've Got Mail', this is the place where Meg Ryan waits for her first in-the-flesh meeting with the mysterious Mr. NY152 (Tom Hanks).

Next it was off to the theatre district in hopes of catching a play. We got there too late so we took photos outside the Ed Sullivan theatre, where the late show with David Letterman is recorded, and maneuvered our way through the masses in Times Square.

From there went to the World Trade Center site. The scale of damage is massive and the air seems to be very dense. I felt a great sadness and anger come over me as I remembered seeing images of people jumping from the towers to their deaths.

We went back to Brooklyn to join forces with Shelly for what turned out to be a night of great music and dancing. I'm sure when I actually do go to sleep I will be exhausted beyond belief, but right now I don't want this day to end. I used to imagine living in New York and what it would feel like to be exposed to so many different activities but now I can actually live it. It's a great feeling.

Extra Day

Guess who decided to stay another day in the Big Apple? That's right- Isabel no doubt has the New York Jones.

We kept it pretty low key today venturing into Chinatown for some bargain shopping. I think we're all pretty drained. I wish I could have gotten up early and showed Isabel more of the city today, but I couldn't. In fact, I even had some coke to get me going. What kind of coke? How dare you ask me that? Coca-cola of course! I'm living the fast life but not that fast.

Back to Reality

Isabel took off today headed back to the great state of Florida. She's going to make sure things go right with the election in November. On second thought, maybe she'll be in New York by then. Who knows? I do know that it was wonderful having her here.

I called the DVD company to see if they've made any hiring decisions yet. They did. I didn't get the job. Someone else with more specific experience got it. Supposedly I was one of 3 finalists. I'm disappointed, but not discouraged.

The struggle continues, but not until I watch this Monday Night Football game. I've got my priorites right.

Protest

I realize that my updates to different areas on the site are pretty sporadic so at the home page is a "New Additions" section with links to new pics and Wahab entries as they come up.

Today began the first wave of apartment showings for prospective renters. To avoid being spotted by the landlord, I went into Manhattan and joined Shelly at a meeting held by a group organizing the march against the bush agenda called United For Peace and Justice.

The meeting was a pre-march rundown for volunteers. We volunteered to hand out 'broad sheets' with logistical information for Sunday's events. Nothing that says anti- bush on it or pro kerry. That's perfect for me because I recently changed my mind about voting for Kerry when I found out that he was also a member of Skull and Bones along with your current president George Bush. That explains to me why this fool Kerry supported every move that his so-called opponent presented to the American people, ie. Patriot ACt, Iraq War, Afghanistan you name they are homeboys.

So what difference will it make? You want to have a president who is literate but still does the same shady things? Kerry has made it clear he wants to increase troop numbers in Iraq, says nothing about repealing the patriot act, does not have a decent health care plan- shall I continue?

As I've told many people, I like having Bush in office because he makes me laugh. I definitely wont vote for him, but at least he entertains me. So I'm back to the undecided, may not vote at all position.
